We are pleased to announce the appointment of Murray Hern as the new Managing Director of Sumitomo Chemical Australia, succeeding Brett Ryan as we move into an exciting new chapter for the business.

Murray brings extensive agricultural and crop protection experience, combined with a strong track record of leadership across international markets. With an agricultural background originating in New Zealand, Murray has built an impressive career spanning Australia and Europe, with a strong focus on delivering growth, innovation, and customer-focused solutions within the agricultural industry.

His career includes valuable experience in Australia working alongside former Sumitomo Chemical Australia Managing Director Tony Brooks during his time at Cyanamid. Most recently, Murray successfully led Sumitomo Chemical UK over the past seven years, where he played a significant role in driving business growth and strengthening the organisation’s position within the market.

As part of the leadership transition, Brett Ryan shared his confidence in Murray’s appointment and the future direction of the business:

“The real key aspects for me are his ag background in NZ, his time here in Australia working in ag in the 1990s with Cyanamid, his extensive international industry experience, and how successful he has made Sumitomo Chemical UK since taking over seven years ago.

Adding to all that is that the more I have got to know him, the more I am convinced he is a great cultural fit and is the right person to lead Sumitomo Chemical Australia into the next phase of the business.”

We are excited to welcome Murray to the Australian team and look forward to the experience, leadership, and vision he will bring as we continue to support growers across Australia and New Zealand with innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions.

Please join us in welcoming Murray Hern to Sumitomo Chemical Australia.
