SCAL

Sumitomo Chemical Australia hosted a special end of year dinner in Sydney this weekend, bringing together staff from across the country for an evening of celebration. The highlight of the night was the recognition of four long serving team members whose dedication has shaped the company’s growth and reputation across the agricultural industry.

The evening paid tribute to:

  • Tony Brookes – Managing Director, 23 years
  • Phil Glover – Regional Manager NSW, 34 years
  • Patrick Press – Regional Manager QLD, 26 years
  • Margot Davis – Regulatory Affairs, 25 years

Managing Director Brett Ryan led the acknowledgements, paying tribute to the exceptional legacy and contributions of each recipient.

Brett commended Tony Brookes for his transformational leadership and vision over more than two decades.

“Tony played an incredible role in developing the Sumitomo Chemical Australia business into what it is today,” he said. “He diversified our portfolio from Select, Rizolex and Sumi Alpha to the great range of products that now serve our customers. His impact on the business is truly remarkable.”

Reflecting on Phil Glover’s 34-year tenure, Brett described him as “the cotton guru,” noting his contribution to the marketing of ProGibb in pasture and his influence across the industry.

“Phil has been a great mentor not only to SCAL staff but also to our customers and other key individuals. His knowledge and generosity have shaped so many careers.”

Turning to Patrick Press, Brett highlighted his deep connection to the cotton industry and his vital role within the Queensland region.

“Patrick had a tremendous impact on our business. He has been critical to our operations in QLD and is one of the most heavily respected people in the industry. His professionalism and integrity are second to none.”

Finally, Brett recognised Margot Davis for her essential work in regulatory affairs.

“Margot has been the backbone of our regulatory team. She has played an integral part in registering our SCAL and Valent products with the APVMA and managing our Australian organic range. Her expertise and consistency have been invaluable to the company.”

The evening wrapped up with warm applause, shared memories, and appreciation for the dedication shown by these four outstanding individuals. Their long-term commitment reflects the core values of SCAL and continues to set the foundation for the organisation’s future success.

The event served not only as a celebration of another successful year but also as a powerful reminder of the people who make Sumitomo Chemical Australia the business it is today.
